Why I’m Here
Being diagnosed with a chronic illness or newly acquired disability is overwhelming. The sheer volume of medical information can feel like learning a new language overnight. There are endless tests, appointments, and treatments - some with immediate and intense side effects, others that take too long to start. The weight of uncertainty, combined with the emotional toll of being unwell, can be crushing. And while medical support is readily available (hopefully), occupational and emotional support is often harder to find. You may not want to lean too much on family and friends who are already anxious about you, leaving you feeling even more alone.
This challenge is magnified when you are a charity sector senior leader or CEO. Your role is already demanding and all-consuming. You may feel like you can't slow down, ask for help, or even take a breath. Telling the board might seem impossible - you don’t want them to doubt your ability to lead. Yet, the reality is that you will need time to process, adjust, and develop new ways of working to manage your symptoms and energy. But this does not take away from who you are. You are still the capable, passionate leader you have always been. You may just need someone to talk to or guidance from someone who truly understands - someone who has walked this path before.
The Slow Leadership Manifesto supports leaders and changemakers in navigating the challenges of leading while living with a chronic illness or adapting to a new diagnosis. You don’t have to choose between your health and your purpose. Together, we will find a way forward that supports both.
A serious health challenge can shake your confidence, identity, and sense of control, but it doesn’t have to define or diminish your leadership. Through tailored mentoring and support, The Slow Leadership Manifesto will help you embrace your vulnerabilities, and redefine success on your own terms. We’ll develop practical strategies to help you manage your own high expectations of yourself, work with your energy patterns, set boundaries, and create new ways of working - ensuring that your work remains fulfilling but sustainable.
As your trusted confidante, The Slow Leadership Manifesto will help you reconnect with your inner self and well-being. By embracing the principles of Slow Leadership and stillness, you’ll restore balance, regain confidence and find a path to renewal.
